Parentheses really matter. The answer could be:

Or:

$${\left({\mathtt{7.8}}{\mathtt{\,\times\,}}{\mathtt{10}}\right)}^{{\mathtt{5}}} = {\mathtt{2\,887\,174\,368}}$$

So your problem is:

$${\frac{{\mathtt{\pi}}}{{\mathtt{6}}}}{\mathtt{\,-\,}}{\mathtt{2}}$$

You would need a common denominator to simplify this expression. Since pi is divided by 6, use 6 as the common denominator by multiplying 2 by (6/6):

 $${\frac{{\mathtt{\pi}}}{{\mathtt{6}}}}{\mathtt{\,-\,}}{\mathtt{2}}{\mathtt{\,\times\,}}\left({\frac{{\mathtt{6}}}{{\mathtt{6}}}}\right)$$

Your goal is to isolate s in order to solve it. So first, add 4 to each side:

$${\frac{{\mathtt{s}}}{{\mathtt{3}}}} = {\mathtt{6}}$$

Now multiply both sides by 3:

$${\mathtt{s}} = {\mathtt{3}}{\mathtt{\,\times\,}}{\mathtt{6}} \Rightarrow {\mathtt{s}} = {\mathtt{18}}$$

Multiplying a number by a negative power of 10 is the same as multiplying it by (1 over that positive power). In other words, you can divide that number by 10 however many times the negative power is.

Therefore:

7.45*10^-3

= 7.45 * 1/(10^3)

= 7.45 / 10^3

= 7.45 / 1000

= 0.00745

Each time you multiply a number by 10, it moves one digit up. So each time you multiply a decimal number by 10, you would move the decimal point one place to the right.

1.06 times 100 is the same as 1.06 * 10 * 10

So you would move the decimal point 2 places to the right:

= 106

So for this problem:

4.337 has 4 sf

1012 kg  has 4 sf

5.01 has 3 sf

107 dm^3 has 3 sf

So the final answer should ber rounded to 3 significant figures:)
