Well, of course, this depends upon one's frame of reference....but.....if, from your frame of reference, the b***s rolls downhill from left to right, the slope is negative, since we genarally consider a line that falls from left to right as having a negative slope.....

Of course, an observer on the other side of the hill might consider the slope 'positive"...

Thanks for those alternatives, Tetration......these kinds of things are always fun to play around with......making 6 with three "8s"  was kind of hard to figure out......!!!!

Here's another proof of this....assuming that "c" is the hypoteneuse and the height is drawn from the right angle to the hypoteneuse ..  so we have

(1/2) ab sin(90)  = (1/2)ch

 ab   = ch

 h  = ab / c

y+3=1/2(x+4)   subtract 3 from both sides

y=1/2(x+4) - 3   simplify

y = (1/2)x + 2 - 3

y =(1/2)x - 1    

This is a line with a slope of (1/2) and a y intercept of -1

Dividing two numbers with the same signs produces a positive......dividing two numbers wth different signs produces a negative.

The additive inverse property of addition.

1/2 *(2 1/6 + 7/8)

Note that 2 + 1/6 = 13/6  ... so we have

1/2 ( 13/6 + 7/8)      and the common denominator between 6 and 8 is 24....so we have

1/2 (52/24 + 21/24) =

1/2(73/24) =

73/48

(16*2 ) * ( x^-8 * x^19) * (y^12 * y^6)       and  a^m * a^n = a^(m + n)
