Divide both sides by -5    ....so we have

l y l  = 0

And the only thing that makes this 0 is when  y = 0  !!!!

Notice in "S1" that we have

40/100 * x = 10       since we want to find "x" we need to multiply both sides by the reciprocal of 40/100 which is 100/40.......

So we have

(100/40)*(40/100) * x =  10* (100/40)         notice that the fractions "cancel" on the left side !!! So we have...

x = 10 * (100/400) .......which is just  "S2"

I'm only know a little about this....it involves spherical trigonometry which is quite different from plane trig.

Here are a couple of references that may help you.....

For the first one, we just need to find the least common multiple for 9, 10 and 14,,,,so we have

9 = 3²

10 = 2 * 5

14 = 2 * 7

So the least common multilple is  3² * 2 * 5 * 7  =  630. And they will meet agiain in 630 minutes = 10.5 hrs.!!!  (Hope they don't run out of gas!!)

For the second one....there will 5 rows of 5 squares each = 25 squares. To see this, note that the area of the big square = 900sq in. And the area of each little square =  36sq in  So, 900/36 = 25 !!

how to find "r" if (r/4)^36 = .12244898

Take the 36th root of each side......remember that we must take the ± 36th root on the righr side !!!

So we have

r/4 = ± (.12244898)^(1/36)    multiply both sides by 4

r = ±4 (.12244898)^(1/36)]

r = about ±3.77334

The product of 7 and a number can be written as 7N.  And 3 less than this is just 7N - 3.

y=(a-k)x+1 solve for x

Subtract 1 from both sides

y - 1  = (a-k)x   

Divide both sides by (a-k)

(y - 1) / (a-k)   =  x

I'll give this one a shot........

The equation for vertical the vertical motion of the projectile is given by:

y = (1/2)(-9.8m/s²)*t^2 + v₀t       where y is the vertical displacement, t is the time and v₀ is the initial vertical velocity (in this case = 0)    If we consider the top of the building to be  y = 0, then the vertical displacement = -25.3m

So we have

-25.3m = (-4.9m/s²)*t^2  divide both sides by  (-4.9m/s²)

(-25.3m) /  (-4.9m/s²) =  t^2   take the positive root of both sides

t = about 2.27 sec
