Thanks, geno........the distinction between these two things always confused me, too.....!!!!
Here's a pretty good tutorial that takes you from A to Z.....!!!!

If KLM is a right triangle, KL = 7, as well
If KLM isn't a right triangle, we would have to know at least one more angle or side length
(a) The answer is given by :
10^(9.2 - 8.8) = about 2.51 times as powerful
(b) The answer is given by :
log2 + 9.2 = about 9.50 in magnitude
Nice, Melody.......those substitutions make this problem easier....!!!
(a + 10)(a – 8) =
a(a - 8) + 10(a - 8) =
a^2 - 8a + 10a - 80 =
a^2 + 2a - 80
(2/3)^4 = 2^4 / 3^4 = 16 / 81
This is a little more difficult than you might suppose:
http://mathforum.org/library/drmath/view/51551.html
We can solve this with a proportion....we have
17.5 / 28 = P / 2 where P = Paula's height ......cross-multiply
2(17.5) = 28P divide both sides by 28
[2 * 17.5] / 28 = P = 5/4 m = 1.25m
The sine of any angle can only take on values from -1 to + 1
Thus......the angle with a sine value > 1 doesn't exist !!!!!
