This solely depends on what you meant by that notation.

If you meant $\dfrac{8^1}3$ then it's 8/3.

If you meant $8^{1/3}$ then it's 2.

Or maybe you can use a calculator, so you don't need to wait for people to reply.

so it is basically $\sqrt[3]{8}$ and that equals 2 sinc 2*2*2=8

8^1/3   is best expressed as 8^(1/3)               

8^(1/3) =    $\displaystyle 8^{\frac{1}{3}}=8^{1/3} = \sqrt[3]{8}=2$

You need the brackets because otherwise 8^1/3 really means   $(8^1) /3  = 8/3 = 2\frac{2}{3}$
