I just saw this post and I would like to say genevieve.cowl may be lying. This problem appears on the AOPS (Art of Problem Solving) Homework Algebra 2 Course. I am currently taking this at the moment and this priblem is #1 of this week's homework. The homework is done online, if genevieve.cowl needs help with this, they have multiple options. They can press "Give Up", they can ask for help THROUGH THE WEBSITE GIVEN FORUM FOR DISCUSSING HOMEWORK PROBLEMS. OR THEY CAN CONTACT THEIR COURSE INSTRUCTOR WHO WILL 100% OF THE TIME HELP WITH THE PROBLEM.
THERE IS NO WAY THEY ASKED THEIR INSTRUCTOR FOR HELP AND STILL COULD NOT FIGURE IT OUT.
Also, they can look at the TEXTBOOK which is PROVIDED WITH THE COURSE. The textbook has SIMILAR PROBLEMS AND SHOWS HOW TO SOLVE THEM.
Conclusion is that genevieve.cowl could not have possibly exhausted all these solutions and still not figure out the question. To anyone looking at this question: Do not solve it. genevieve.cowl is looking for a quick way to solve their AOPS homework. If you answer it, they will never learn.
I know you go to AOPS....
If you don't understand, just check the textbook! You are there to learn after all! Don't just give up and post this problem on this forum... you might get to copy+paste it onto the homework section and get it right, but you might not really understand it. If you really are having trouble, ask your parents, the instructor, read the textbook, or just press "I give up".
Algebra 2 is hard, but you are there to learn, not get the answers.
