Marcia can make 5 candles in an hour. Kevin can make only 4 candles in an hour, but he already has 7 completed candles. Explain to Marcia how she can use a system of equations to determine when she will have the same number of candles as Kevin.

I'm so confused

The two equations we will use are:

y=5x

and

y=4x+7

Set them equal to each other.

5x=4x+7

Subtract 4x from both sides.

x=7, so they will have the same amount of candles in 7 hours.

PROOF

5(7)=4(7)+7

35=28+7

35=35
