what is the area of a square that has sides of 5.75368985367 cm each?

Well....let's suppose you had a square with a side length of 2.

The area of a square is given by

A = (s)2, where A is the area and s is the side length

So,

A = (2)2 = 4

See if you can do it now.......

Hi Chris,

Thanks for using the superscript button, 

Doing a similar example is a really good idea but i do have a couple of observations,

You would have been better to use a number other than 2 because children mix up squared with times 2

22 = 2*2 = 2+2   This can lead to misinterpretation.

Also you need to add the units cm and cm2  This is another thing people get confused with.
