(q-5)(q-6) using the FOIL method.

First: q*q=q2

Outside: q*(-6)=-6q

Inside: (-5)*q=-5q

Last: (-5)*(-6)

q2-6q-5q+30

q2-11q+30

(q5)(q6)

F.O.I.L.

F - First Times First (q×q)

O - Outside Times Outside (q×[6])

I - Inside Times Inside ([5]×q)

L - Last Times Last ([5]×[6])

When you do the F.O.I.L. method for this expression, you get :

q26q5q+30

Now combine like terms

q211q+30
