I must have forgotten some rule... trying to figure out how to simplify this...

 

x=4(a+b)±16(a+b)248ab24

 

Simplifies to:

 

x=(a+b)±a2ab+b26

 

Can someone please explain the rules and steps being used here for this simplification?

 

If it helps the function is:

f'(x)=12x- 4(a+b)x + ab

x=4(a+b)+16(a2+2ab+b2)48ab24

x=4(a+b)+16(a2+2ab+b23ab)24

x=4(a+b)+16(a2ab+b2)24

x=4(a+b)+16a2ab+b224

x=4(a+b)+4a2ab+b224

 

x=(a+b)+a2ab+b26
