Scientific Notation

Scientific notation means to continue to divide by 10 until you have a number less than 10.

In this case, you have to go 10 decimal spots in before you get a number less than 10, so the notation is: 

3.1027100570 x 10^10

The power equals the amount of times you had to divide by 10 to get a number under 10.

31,027,100,570  =

3.1027100570 x 10^10
