A student said that since 51÷3=17， then 0.051÷3 is 0.17.

is the student 's reasoning correct? Give reasons for your answer.

0.017 is ${\frac{{\mathtt{17}}}{{\mathtt{1\,000}}}}$

0.17 is ${\frac{{\mathtt{17}}}{{\mathtt{100}}}}$

They are completely different! 0.17 is 10 times bigger than 0.017!!!!!

So, the student is not correct......

hey Cphill maybe the extra zero was left off due to rounding maybe?..... (0.017)
