The length of a rectangle is 3 centimeters more than 3 times the width. If the perimeter of the rectangle is 46 centimeters, find the dimension of the rectangle.

a) L = 5cm; W = 18cm

b) L = 13cm; W = 8cm

c) L = 13cm; W = 5cm

d) L = 18cm; W = 5cm

The perimeter of the rectangle would be:

L + W + L + W = 46

We know the convertion from L to W, so we change that:

(3 + 3W) + W + (3 + 3W) + W = 46

Simplify:

3 + 3 + 8W = 46

8W = 40

W = 5cm

Plug back in to find L:

2(5) + 2L = 46

2L = 36

L = 18cm
