d. the upward acceleration of Earth is negligible because of its large mass. 

 

Answer is D. However Why is the answer not B. It seems like the correct answer from what I learned in Physics R

the object exerts a force on Earth in the direction of Earth towards the object.  (Gravity is attractive)

 

This would be considered an upwards force on Earth.
