Is there someone who can maybe assist me with this question.
What is the value of 36x - 8y2 when 3 and y = -6
I looked the answer up , but still dont understand how to get to the answer eventhough I tried to follow the steps that was given with the answer.
Hope someone can assist me . would be much appriciated...
there is no = next to the 3 all it says is
36x - 8y2 when 3 and y =-6
so i guess its like that
36x- 8y² = 36·3 - 8·(-6)²
= 108 - 8·36
= -180
How did you work it out though
Do you take 108 - 8 x 36 ? sorry I'm just trying to figure out how you get the answer so i can understand it better

36x - 8y^2
36(3)-8(-6)^2
108-8(36)
108-288
the answer would then = -108

36x - 8y2 Where 3= x and y= -6.
36x- 8y² = 36·3 - 8·(-6)²
= 108 - 8·36 } Here you multiply 8*36 before you subtract according to PEMDAS.
= 108 - 288
= -180
