Amateur boxers can only compete with boxers of the same weight.

Two amateur boxers have weights in the ratio 2.5: 3.

Their total weight is 165 kg.

the table below shows the 3 weight categories and the weight of the boxer.

Can boxers face each other?

Let the two wieghts be w1 and w2.

w1/w2 = 2.5/3 (1)

w1 + w2 = 165 (2)

from (1) we have w1 = 2.5*w2/3 (3)

Put (3) in (2)

2.5/3*w2 + w2 = 165 or w2 = 165*3/5.5 = 90

Put this into (2) w1 + 90 = 165 so w1 = 75

You can decide if they can face each other!
