I think it is reasonable to assume that this is a direct variation question.

 

a. Use the fact that x=39 when y=-117 to find the constant of variation and write the equation of variation.

b. Find the value of x when y= -132.

 

y=kx117=k39k=11739 y=11739xWheny=132132=11739x13239117=xx=13239117

 

132*39/117 = 44

 

When      y=-132      x=44
