x - y < 1

Where does the negative sign cancel out?

x - y < 1

minus x

-y < -x + 1

-y / -1 < -x / -1 + -x / 1

y < x -1

You can first plug in 0 for x, to get our y-intercept value.

0-y<1

y<-1

Then we can plug in 0 for y, to get our x-intercept value.

x-0<1

x<1

Because this is a linear function, (we know because this is in general form)

General Form : Ax+By+C=0

Linear functions only need the y-intercept and x-intercept, so our graph will looks somewhat like this:

(This is kind of bad, its zoomed out, but I can assure you the intercepts are correct)

We can also see that it is a dashed line, we know this because it is only "less than", it has to be "less than or equal to" in order to be a solid line.

Add y to both sides. Subtract 1 from both sides.
