Divide thru by 2   (this will not change the 'zeroes' ....also known as the x-axis intercepts)

x^2 -6x+8    factor

(x-4)(x-2)       x intercepts are thus   4  and 2

axis of symmetry is between the zeroes ...in the middle at x = 3
