Let \(f(x) = x^3 + 3x ^2 + 4x - 7\) and \(g(x) = -7x^4 + 5x^3 +x^2 - 7\) . What is the coefficient of \(x^3\) in the sum f(x) + g(x)?

f(x) has x^3

g(x) has 5x^3

x^3 + 5x^3 = 8x^3

I'm really sorry, but the answer is 6.

x^3 + 5x^3 = 6x^3

I have no idea why I thought 1 + 5 = 8.
