ur basically gonna subtract the area of the circle from the area of the square to get the shaded region.
area of circle = pi x 4^2 = 16 pi
area of square = 32 
shaded region = 16 pi - 32 = 18.3 m squared

Area of circle  MINUS  area of square    = shaded area

    pi r^2               -        s * s                   = shaded area

    pi (4)^2          -     (sqrt2) * (4 sqrt2)   = shaded area             You should be able to get it from here ......
