DeShawn's school is selling tickets to the annual dance competition. On the first day of ticket sales, the school sold 1 adult ticket and 2 student tickets for a total of 18 dollars. The school took in 43 dollars on the second day by selling 1 adult ticket and 7 student tickets. What is the price each of one adult ticket and one student ticket?

What I have gotten so far is that it will be $5 and something cents for each ticket.I tried my best to get the right answer but I keep getting different answers. I hope this helps.

A = cost  of adult ticket

S =cost of student ticket

 

We have this system

 

1A  + 2S  =  18

1A  + 7 S  =  43      subtract the  first equation from  the second

 

5S  =  25

S =  5 (dollars)

 

1A  + 2(5)    =18

A  + 10  =  18

A  =  8  (dollars)
