A rectangular garden has a length that is twice its width. The dimensions are increased so that the perimeter is doubled and the new shape is a square with an area of 3600 square feet. What was the area of the original garden, in square feet?(no diagram)

because you are given two rectangular gardens and one is double the size of the other, you can see that there are scale factors, 1:2.

because you want the area of the original garden, the scale factor will be 1^2:2^2=1:4.

now you can apply it:

3600*1/4 = 900. therefore the area of the original garden is 900 square feet.
