A new green technology can be installed in your home for a one-time installation cost of $10,000 and annual maintenance costs of $$650 per year. If the green technology is supposed to save you $1200 each year in energy bills, how many whole years will it take to recuperate your costs?

650x+10,000=1200x

10,000=550x

x=10,000/550

x is a little over 18

So I think the answer is 19 because you need whole years

Savings   1200   less maintenance of 650  = 550 savings each year

550 x   = 10000    solve for          x = years to break even

The answer I believe is 19 because if you have 18 years, you would be a little UNDER the amount of money to recuperate the cost. You need to be a whole number of years over.

Same here.

For example, if you have 5 tiles that need 2 liters of paint each, you can't have 9.9999 liters, right? You have to use ceiling for this.
