If s is a position function, determine what s(5)-s(4) represents.

a) Instantaneous Velocity at t= 5 s

b) average velocity between t=4 s  and t=5 s

c) Instantaneous velocity at t = 4 s

d) Position between t = 4 s and t = 5 s

I believe the answer is d.

Actually....I believe  "b"  is correct

Avg velocity  =    s(b)  -  s(a)

                          __________

                             b  -  a

So

s(5)  -  s(4)

_________       =        s(5)  - s(4)

   5  -  4

I thought it might be "b" but wouldn't they normally put it over a fraction? That's what made me think Position "d"

Because if we think about it slope is (Average velocity) is change in position / time traveled.

In this case  5 - 4  =  1  so the denominator just equals 1  smiley
