 A quadrilateral has four points A(0,1), B(1,3), C(5,2) and D(4,0) as coordinates, how do I find the area?

I suggest graphing this to visualize it better. Once you graph it, you can see that it is a parallelogram. You can easily find the area by drawing a rectangular figure around the shape and subtracting small triangles

15-2-1-2-2 and we get 8 as our answer

[ABCD] = 15 - 1 - 1 - 2 - 2 = 9 squarw units

Thanks. graphing the quad helped calculate the area as a sum of two triangles.

ht = sqrt((0-1.5)^2 + (1-2.5)^2) = 1.5sqrt(2)

base = sqrt((1-4)^2 + (3-0)^2) = 3sqrt(2)

Area of 1 triangle = 1/2 *1.5sqrt(2)*3*sqrt(2) = 4.5

Area of quadrialater = 2*area of triangle = 9
