hello everyone,

The equation of a parabola is given:

f(x)=x2x+6

If h(x) is a reflection of f(x) about the x-axis, determine it's equation if the graph is shifted 3 units to the right. leave your answer in the form: a(x+p)+q

Okay, the following I understand:

x2x+6,  becomes  x2+x6 (Reflection)

now add the shift: (x3)2+(x3)6

This equates to: x25x

NOW THIS PART:

h(x)=(x52)2254

Please explain this last part...Thank you all kindly..

Hi Rom,

but why 254?

or 52 in the first place?..I just don't get this..

h(x)=x25x

I'll use a different concrete example to start with

(x6)2=x226x+36(x122)2=x212x+(122)2x212x+(122)2=(x122)2 So for your questionx25x+(52)2=(x52)2which meansx25x+(52)2(52)2=(x52)2(52)2x25x=(x52)2(52)2x25x=(x52)2(254)

So here, both Rom and I have 'completed the square'

Is that any clearer?
