4y - 7 = 3y + 5 is
Hello Guest!
\(4y - 7 = 3y + 5\ |\ -3y\\ 4y-3y-7=5\ |\ +7\\ 4y-3y=5+7\\\)
\(y=12\)
!
A simpler way would be
\(4y-7=3y+5\)
\(4y=3y+12\)
\(4y-3y=3y-3y+12\)
\(y=12\)
It may look longer than yours but is easier to do in your head
Sorry guest but I must disagree.
The two methods are near enough to identical.
Only difference is that you added the 7 first then subtracted the 3y
whereas
asinus did it in the other order.
Maybe it is easier for YOU to do yours in your head because you have been taught to always do it in that order.
i think that if your doing basic math, sure, do it in your head if its ezer for you.
but if your doing advanced math, do. it. on. paper. because when you do the complicated stuff and your brain explodes with stress, you make simple mistakes when doing stuff like this in your head.
