The thing to notice here is that x-3 must be less than 7 units from 0 on the number line .. so...

 

 

-7 < x-3 < 7

 

-4 < x < 10

Hi Rudi,

You might find this old post interesting too.

It is a visual representation of what I was trying to say.

 

it is   

|3n|>15

This is saying that the distance of 3n from the origin must be more than 15.  

Have a look at what I have done on the number line. :)
