A rectangular prism is 6 inches long and 4 inches high. Its volume is 312 cubic inches. What is the width of the rectangular prism?

All you really have to do is do 312 divided by 6, and divide again by 4

 

width=volume/length/height (the order for length and height don't matter, and it's the same thing for length and width, like length=volume/height/width, height=volume/width/length, for volume=length*width*height)

 

312÷6÷4=13

 

to check work, multiply length times width times height to get volume, in this case the volume should be 312 if the width was founded correctly

 

13x6x4=312

 

the width of this rectangular prism is 13 inches
