A square with sides of length x, is inside of a circle.

Each vertex of the square is on the circumference of the circle.

The area of the circle is 49cm^2

Work out the value of x and give your answer is 3 significant figures.

What i done:

49/pi = 15.6

sqrt 15.6 = 3.9

3.9*2= 7.8

but my steps so far seems to be wrong please correct and explain to me what i should do

Area of circle is

49  =  pi * r^2

49 / pi = r^2           take the square root of both sides

7 / √pi  =   radius

The diameter is twice this  =   14/ √pi  =  the diagonal of the square

And the diagonal of a square = √2 * side length

So.....we have that

14 / √pi  =  √2 * side length        [divide both sides by √2 ]

14 /  √ [ 2  pi ]  =   side length ≈   5.585 cm
